ACQUISITION OF THE PRINTING PRESS
In 2001, UNEB acquired printing machinery and installed them at Kyambogo along the Kyambogo road just opposite the main hall of Kyambogo University.
The machines and equipment include;
Modern computers for graphic design, the Duo setter for colour separation and the automatic plate maker, all in the Pre-Press.
In the Press Room are; the Duplex perfector, the Sorz- two colour and the SM74 all Heidelberg make.
In the Post Press are; the Polar 115, Stalfolders, ST100ce gang stitchers, the Perfect binder, drills and the Crasher.
As seen from above all necessary equipment are under one roof and this is because UNEB Printery is a security Printing Press. All work handled by this department is confidential and is handled under tight security.

ACTIVITIES OF THE PRINTERY DEPARTMENT
Initially the Printery was established to handle basically all in-house printing requirements. Such activities range from examinations stationery like Answer Booklets and Marking Stationery to live Examination Question Papers.

Other activities include:

  • Printing of calendars (full colour)
  • Posters (full colour)
  • UNEB Newsletter (full colour)
  • Christmas cards
  • Past papers booklets
  • Circulars and any other printing requirements.

In 2009, the Board suggested that the Printery should go commercial as well as handling in-house work. As I write this information, top management is busy trying to come-up with a paper detailing how the commercial line will be handled. By the year 2012 we shall be printing work from outside UNEB. By 2012 we will have received more new machines. Currently we are in some discussions with the World Bank and if all goes well, they will procure for us a web machine, a convertible web (caster), one more Pollar 115, an extra folding machine, a computer to plate equipment and a mini electronic web. Our aim is to beef up capacity to handle work of any magnitude.

MAN POWER
The Printery is well equipped with professionally qualified printers. It has a manager, a technician, a supervisor and machine operators all of whom are full time staff of the Board.

INVENTORY
The department has an inventory store with basic raw material and consumables such as paper, inks, chemicals, stitching wires, etc. The stocks are always sufficient enough to enable us handle given work on time.
The Printery mission is to fulfill UNEBs mission. The mission of the Board is,“To ensure continued improvement of Quality, Validity and Reliability of Assessment and Evaluation of the Curriculum and Learners Achievement.

SECURITY
To meet the requirements of the demanding market place, the production of confidential print requires highest level of security and document protection. All confidential materials are printed with“zero error attitude. The Security Committee carefully selects printers of high integrity and with a long clean record. Inside the press everyone is highly monitored to ensure minimizing of errors right from receipt of artwork through all the printing process to the destruction of confidential rubbish and plates, there is strict monitoring at all the production process to eradicate and potential leakage. We do not only manage and work with your data but always protect it.

QUALITY
Quality can never be understated and in confidential printing it is a crucially important. To achieve this, the manager and the supervisor have taken upon themselves the responsibility to manage quality and the systems to provide a high level of accuracy that will be fully transparent. They too continually strive to push standards all the way through right from receipt of raw data to the final product.

DOCUMENT DESIGN
Whether it is in English or another language, whether it is simple line drawing or complicated formula, we always ensure the product you require is designed to your exact needs.

CLIENTILE
In 2011 and beyond when our capacities are beefed up, we shall accept work from any examination council in Africa as well as any other confidential work.
