The 48 month period within which a candidate must complete all the subjects required for a Group Certificate begins with the official announcement of the result of the first single examination included in the Group certificate, and ends with the official announcement of the results of the corresponding examination series 48 months later. If the result of the first single subject examination was announced in September 1996 the period will end with the announcement of results in September 2000.

If a candidate fails to complete all the subjects within the first 48 month period he or she will be allowed to repeat one or more subjects and to count a new 48 month period for a Group Certificate. He or she will have to show that all examinations for the Group Certificate have been taken within a period of 48 consecutive months. This might mean that he or she will have to repeat not only the subjects in which he or she has failed but also one or more subjects in which he or she had earlier obtained a pass which has now become outdated.

The 48- month period is a maximum period intended to give part- time students an opportunity to obtain a Group Certificate. Students attending full-time courses in a school or college will be expected to complete a certificate course in a considerably shorter time. The subjects included in the Group Certificate will be endorsed on the certificate indicating Distinction, Credit or Pass in each subject. Any elective subjects in addition to the stipulated minimum number will also be endorsed on the certificate.

An application for a Group Certificate can be submitted after successful completion of the single subjects. The application is made on a special form entitled Application for Group Certificate which can be obtained from the Uganda National Examinations Board. Offices, Business Education Section
